  PRASLIN ISLAND

Measuring 7 miles long by 2.5 miles wide, Praslin is one of the granite group of islands located about 25 miles from Mahe and three from La Digue.
Praslin island is not as mountainous as Mahe (the highest mountain range is about 1100 feet) and its most notable attraction is the Vallee de Mai, the only place in the world where the botanical rariry, the "coco-de-mer", grows. Shaped like a double coconut, this seed is very unique. Please note that the coco-de-mer is strictly protected. If you plan to take one home with you, make sure you obtain it from a licensed dealer who will also give you a permit to export it.
The "coco-de-mer" is by no means the only attraction on Praslin. Surrounded by a coral reef and crystal clear waters, the island is absolutely beautiful. Praslin is not as lively as Mahe but you will find many beaches and trails to explore during the day. Cote d'Or is the longest beach on Praslin, where you will find most of the larger hotels situated. If you arrive to Praslin by sea (a one hour trip from Mahe), you will be able to take in the breathtaking views of Baie St. Anne and the nearby islands. In this large bay is where you will find the hospital, a bank, shops and a church.
Praslin has a population of 7000 who live mainly on fishing and farming.
The airport, built amid palm trees, (15 minutes by plane from Mahe) is situated on the west coast of the island.
